The North China qualification trial for the Robotex International 2019, the biggest robotics festival on the planet, took place on June 1 in Daxing district, Beijing.

The two-day event attracted more than 1,000 contestants from 10 provincial-level regions across the country to compete in terms of logic abilities, creative thinking and practice.

The robot event consisted of three activities: professional competitions, a technology exhibition, and industry and technology forums themed on artificial intelligence and robots.

Winners will have the opportunity to compete in the Robotex Asia regional finals in August and to go up against players from 18 signatory countries including Finland, Estonia, the United States, Colombia, India and Greece.

Founded in 2001, Robotex International attracts more than 3,000 competition teams from over 40 countries each year. With thousands of engineers, executives, students and families coming together to be inspired by industry leaders, examine new startups, build robots for various challenges and learn about the latest technology, Robotex has become one of the world’s biggest and most influential robot events.

Yang Beibei, deputy head of the Daxing government, said the district gives top priority to the development of high-end industries. Through optimizing industrial structure, developing emerging industries, and improving resource allocation efficiency, Daxing offers full support for the growth of competitive industries.

"We have issued a number of preferential policies and measures to boost high-end industrial projects since last year," Yang said, adding that Daxing is a hot spot of reform and development offering various great opportunities.

“We hope to create a world-class business environment through our efforts,” Yang said.

Zhao Jieying, president of the Robotex Beijing organizing committee, said the committee would like to explore the innovation and value chain of the Robotex competition. It helps competitors’ participation in the event, pushes forward the development of robot-related education in China, and trains scientific and technological elites.

"Robotex aims to deliver more than just a robot event in China, but create a better life of intelligent interconnection. To provide people with broadened vision and enhanced interaction, Robotex triggers emotional resonance and increases people’s sense of happiness."

Artificial intelligence experts and domestic enterprises had an in-depth discussion on the new interactive technology of deep learning at the event, and they also shared opinions about the development and construction of the economic zone around the Daxing international airport.

An official of the e-commerce office of Daxing district said it is the first time the district has held an international competition.

Daxing has determined its functional position as a demonstration area for coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, a leading area for scientific and technological innovation, a pilot site for deepening reform of urban and rural development, and a new gateway for international exchanges in the southern part of Beijing.

In accordance with that positioning, Daxing district is developing an economic zone around the airport centered on international aviation services, international exhibitions, refined life and health, new generation information technology and high-quality intelligent manufacturing industries.

The district also plans to increase its efforts in international investment promotion, and to foster a robot industry innovation base to facilitate exhibitions and exchange of advanced technology products.
