Since Beijing Daxing International Airport was put into use, Lixian township in Beijing’s Daxing district has made continuous efforts to improve the environment around the air transit hub.

This year, Lixian’s cumulative concentration of PM 2.5 saw a 16.5 percent reduction year-on-year – the largest decrease in Daxing district. Meanwhile, its TSP data dropped 22.9 percent year-on-year.

Pollution levels for both measurements (PM2.5 and TSP) have declined for three consecutive years.

The town transplanted 12,000 trees in the villages surrounding the airport and has implemented fallow crop rotation to improve land quality. A total of 2,300 mu (153.3 acres) of landscape crops such as alfalfa and rapeseed have also been cultivated in the area.

Also, Lixian has promoted air pollution control by utilizing the environmental protection grid system and strengthening the management of construction units.

Notably, the township has established a map system that monitors roads to reduce traffic and dust pollution.
